Seed germination / dispersal

In this experiment, the project team hopes to establish the Fijian Crested Iguana’s role in seed distribution within the forest ecosystem. We will investigate whether seeds that have passed through an iguana’s digestive system are more likely to germinate than a seed that has merely fallen to the ground from a tree. Information from these experiments can then be combined with movement pattern data to determine the dispersal  distance of seeds ingested by iguanas.
