Crazy Ant base number surveys

Crazy Ants (Anololepis gracilipes) are an introduced species to Yadua Taba. They have been responsible for severe damage on other South Pacific islands and are listed in the top 100 invasive species globally.

These ants seem to live relatively harmoniously until an unknown trigger causes them to form ‘Super Colonies’ that can be very destructive to other members of the island ecosystem. Although there is no evidence to suggest that the Crazy Ants on Yadua Taba are forming ‘Super Colonies’, the base-line data collected by the F.C.I.P. team during the first two project phases will give scientists a reference point from which they can determine if the ant numbers are growing in the future.
